CFAES’s Beef Center in Columbus provides animals for teaching and research. It currently houses 120 spring-calving cows and about 40 fall-calving cows. These animals are of Angus, Simmental, and Angus x Simmental breeding. Steer calves are sent to CFAES’s Beef Research Center in Wooster for feedlot trials, and heifer calves are kept for research projects and replacement females.

Students in evaluation classes taught by the Department of Animal Sciences use the center to see what’s actually happening in an industry setting. Most of the center’s research aims to increase the profitability of producers around Ohio.
